It takes a lot of courage to pursue your dreams. It takes hard work, relentless determination and utmost confidence in yourself to achieve what you’ve set your heart and mind to. But there’s a thin line between the right and the wrong way to achieve your dreams.

A 19-year-old Delhi boy, Adnan Khurram was arrested by Delhi police on Saturday, for impersonating as a doctor at AIIMS for the last five months.

Adnan Khurram is a native of Bihar, lived near Jamia Nagar, in Batla House. He has no criminal records and he had posted many pictures on social media wherein he’s seen wearing a lab-coat and a stethoscope.

A Hindustan Times report said he used a fake identity to make friends across various departments and medical students. He had accessed a diary issued to doctors. He even made different claims to different doctors.

The police were surprised with his elaborate knowledge about medicine but that doesn’t excuse his lack of qualification to be a doctor. The chief of Resident Doctors’ Association, Harjit Singh said,

“He would roam around wearing the lab coat and stethoscope all the time. We found out that he had made different claims to different doctors. To some, he would claim that he was a junior resident doctor while to junior resident doctors, he would introduce himself as an undergraduate medical student. He had even made his way to the WhatsApp groups.”

Singh further added that since AIIMS has abouyt 2000 resident doctors, it is difficult to know each and every single one of them. Khurram used this knowledge to his advantage in his activities.

The reason or motive behind his act is still unclear, the police said, because his statements keep changing. One statement suggests he committed the crime to help an ailing family member get preferential treatment. Another suggests that he liked spending time with doctors and wanted to become one too.

Khurram has been booked under IPC sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) at Hauz Khas Police Station.

There are so many evils in the world already, the last thing we need is finding out that the doctor treating us is not a doctor at all, but an impersonator fulfilling his/her dreams at the cost of our lives.
