Abhijeet Sawant Admits He Was Dissatisfied, Says, “Working For Money Is My Biggest Regret”

Singer Abhijeet Sawant, who won the first Indian Idol had earlier slammed makers of the show for focusing on fake love stories and poverty instead of real musical talent. However, in a recent interview, Abhijeet opened up about the highs and lows of his life.

He admitted that at the peak of his fame, he was living out of a suitcase. HT reports him saying that he would fly to shows almost on a daily basis. He further explained that his schedule was so hectic that he would sleep in his car under his house for a couple of hours just to get a feel of home. He’d then head back to the airport for another show.

Talking about the sudden fame and influx of money, he revealed, “I invested well. It was around the time of the 2008 recession, so a lot of the money we’d saved here and there we were realigning. It was a cluster at that point, but I did save well. I bought a house as well, so it was okay. But I was working for money, and I still believe that was one of my biggest regrets.”

Touching upon the culture of showing off in the industry, he said that he has been guilty of it. He recalls a time he bought an expensive Rolex watch that wouldn’t even fit his wrist. However, he soon realised he didn’t want to chase money.

Elaborating on the same, he explained, “Maybe it’s my thinking, but when you’re running behind money, you have to compromise many things with your talent, your music, your knowledge. I realized that after 35-37, I don’t want to keep saying, ‘What to do, you have to compromise’.”
