Everyone spending a majority of their time on social media applications like Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp must be well aware of their ‘story’ feature. The feature enables users to post temporary updates on their profiles that automatically disappear after 24 hours. Well, following this trend, the popular microblogging site Twitter has also introduced a similar feature called ‘Fleets’ for its mobile users in India, reported The Indian Express.
Testing, testing…
We’re testing a way for you to think out loud without the Likes, Retweets, or replies, called Fleets! Best part? They disappear after 24 hours. pic.twitter.com/r14VWUoF6p— Twitter India (@TwitterIndia) June 9, 2020
According to the company, the new feature will aid users in sharing their thoughts that will disappear after 24 hours. However, it will not have retweets, likes or public comments.
Namaste! Starting today, Fleets are coming to India. If you’re in India, check it out and let us know what you think! #FleetsFeedback 🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/U6QiHynm1U

But if someone wants to reply to a ‘Fleet’, they can tap on it to send a ‘Direct Message’ to the user. One can see the option at the top of their home timeline.
Well, as expected, the ‘story-like’ feature got people talking.

There were some who also highlighted how introducing an edit option would have made more sense.
Dear @Twitter I didn’t need #fleets. I don’t miss having a feature like this when I tweet. What I do miss is having the ability to edit small mistekes in tweets that I post without having to delete them & post corrected versions. Thanks muchly #FleetsFeedback
