The Marvel fans have always waited for the Marvel panels for major announcements and epic revelations that happen here. This year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2019 was even more sensational given the epic revelation for the anticipated Marvel Phase 4.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared his plans for the upcoming movies, sequels and TV series. But one announcement that is worth all the applause is about ‘The Eternals’, the next big Marvel film. Feige dropped the news that they were ready to welcome a gay superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Richard Madden’s character ‘Ikaris’ is all set to be Marvel’s first openly gay character in ‘The Eternals.’
Richard Madden who also starred as Rob Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ will play the openly gay superhero ‘Ikaris’ who can fly, read minds and is faster than his fellow Eternals. Reports have it that he is also the first Eternal introduced in the 4th Phase of the comics.
The star was thrilled to be a part of the comic ahead of their time. Talking to ET he says:
“I think it’s hugely important, just the cast is so diverse. I’m a white male actor and not in the majority of this cast. I’m the minority, which is important in terms of diversity in filmmaking. I think Marvel are really at the forefront of that.”
The cast of ‘The Eternals’ includes Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington, Kumail Nanhiani, Lia Mchugh, Salma Hayek, Dong-seok Ma, Brian Tyree Henry and Lauren Ridloff. Reportedly, the film is set to release on November 6, 2020.
The MCU has definitely upped their superhero game by making it more inclusive. Their decision to include a superhero from the LGBTQ community is commendable in more ways than one. Marvel is indeed slaying their diversity game.
