The researchers have found that facial enhancements could effectively change people’s perception of a person.
“It is really interesting that different anatomic areas of the face have varying degrees of contribution to overall personality perception,” lead researcher Michael Reilly said. “And it is also noteworthy that the study did not find a significant change in masculinity. Just one procedure, a neck-lift, was found to enhance that trait,” he added.
For the study, 24 men who underwent facial procedures participated in the research at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The researchers showed “before” and “after” photos of each participant to over 150 people. They were asked to rate the personality traits like aggressiveness, extroversion, likeability, risk-seeking, sociability, trustworthiness, attractiveness and masculinity for each one of them.
According to the results thus obtained, men with upper eyelid procedures showed more likeability and trustworthiness, on the other hand, a brow-lift was associated with extroversion and risk-taking.
