These Powerful Posters Show You The Reality Of Heartbreaking Violence Against Women

Crime. Violence. How do we define it? Mostly by what we see with our own eyes. Something that appalls us enough to ignite the fire that this needs to change. But there is so much going on in the rest of the world that we have no idea about, just because we are not exposed to it.

These images by UNICEF, shared by AWARE, an NGO, that are a shocking eye-opener:

Child marriage is not a new concept in India. This is something that has been going on for quite a few centuries, though there has definitely been a drastic improvement in the situation over the past few decades. Girls who marry earlier in life are less likely to be informed about reproductive issues, and because of this, pregnancy-related deaths are known to be the leading cause of mortality among married girls between 15 and 19 years of age.

It is equally important for the girl to be emotionally ready to be married, instead of forcing her to get married at an age where she should be going to school and playing with her friends.

Delhi has been wrongly gaining popularity as the rape capital of India. There are a lot of cases in other parts of India that are just as shocking, yet go unreported.

The number of heinous crimes against women that headline Indian papers is increasing day by day. Sexual violence is not restricted to rape, it includes molestation too. What is even more appalling is that some women are subjected to sexual violence by the male members of their own family.

Cases of physical abuse against both boys and girls are encountered all over the world. Many times, physical abuse results from inappropriate or excessive physical discipline. Preventing child abuse and meting out appropriate punishment to avoid future cases should be considered a high priority.

#ENDviolence. Mind your hand.
