Perception is subjective. You and I can both look at the exact thing at the exact same time and still perceive it differently. Remember the rage that was once widespread about the blue or gold dress?
Well, this time we have a different version of that same phenomena.
A short audio clip is making the rounds of the internet and netizens are going crazy deciding whether the word spoken in the clip is ‘Yanny’ or ‘Laurel’.
Is it #Yanny or #Laurel? Listen to the video to hear the recording. STORY: https://t.co/xX5rjo3dkQ pic.twitter.com/OPGW3EVzom

I hear Yanny. My friends and colleagues hear Laurel. So, Yanny or Laurel?
So many people are posting voting polls on their feed to know whether others are #TeamYanny or #TeamLaurel. It has sparked a heated debate similar to one we’ve witnessed before.
1. Thankfully, this voting doesn’t require a booth.
What do you hear?! Yanny or Laurel pic.twitter.com/jvHhCbMc8I

3. But I’m not lying! It says Yanny!
The thing definitely says Laurel, there's no way anyone could hear that as Yanny, anyone who says they do is lying for shock value, the end, gfy

The Yanny or Laurel auditory illusion became instantly viral after a Reddit user posted the clip on the platform.
People began analysing different explanations for why some people hear Yanny and other hear Laurel.
This is by far the simplest and most plausible explanation I came across.
Both names look similar on a spectral display, but #Laurel is best heard on lower frequencies. #Yanny is being whispered, and at a higher freq. The low quality of the clip + varying speakers + similar resonance = hearing Yanny and/or Laurel. @voxdotcom pic.twitter.com/8xfEIay4vP

That makes sense now, doesn’t it?
So anyway, which team are you in? #TeamYanny (which is me) or #TeamLaurel (which lot of others are)?
