Social media is surely a blessing in today’s world. It is well-equipped with numerous informational videos that help people learn useful things. From guitar lessons to cooking shows, you can find anything and everything on social media these days.
9-year-old Timothy Prather from the US leaned the Heimlich technique from YouTube. The technique includes giving abdominal thrusts to a person who is choking. Recently, Prater saw his cousin stomping his feet and holding his throat when they visited a rodeo in Mcnairy County, Tennessee, reports Fox News.
“Our mam-maw had him upside down and our pap-paw was patting his back, that’s how I knew something was wrong,” he said.
He could not breathe and was choking. Without any delay, Prater immediately applied the technique he learned on YouTube and saved his cousin’s life, reports HT.
“I just feel happy that he’s alive,” Prather said. The 9-year-old said that he remembers watching a few YouTube videos about the technique and also said that there were some posters about the same at his kindergarten.”
“We never know when they’re watching, what they’re picking up on,” Kindergarten teacher Brandi Wardlow said. “To think this little poster here saved his cousin’s life, it’s amazing,” she added.
She said that the posters which Prather was talking about were in fact older than him and she’d hung them on the walls around 14 years back.
Prather’s story caught the attention of YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and she shared it on Twitter.
Important reminder that YouTube has lots of valuable short, instructional videos including what to do if someone is choking. https://t.co/IPvV2HnVC3
