Tuition Teacher In Thane Punishes Class 3 Student With ‘450 Sit-Ups’, Girl Hospitalized

Remember those happy days when finishing your homework was your only responsibility? I can’t even count the number of excuses I made to avoid doing my school work. Well, the dreaded task seems like a piece of cake now. With additional responsibilities and stressful jobs, a teacher’s strict punishment doesn’t seem that bad after all.

However, not all teachers are the same. Recently, a private tuition teacher in Maharashtra allegedly asked her eight-year-old student to do “450 sit-ups” as punishment, reports Times of India. The girl, studying in Class 3 at a school in Thane district, fell ill after the incident and had to be admitted to a hospital.

The teacher had reportedly asked the girl to do 450 sit-ups for not completing her homework on time. When the little girl went home after the tuition classes, her mother noticed that her child was unable to walk and had swollen legs, reports the Indian Express. She immediately took the girl to a hospital where she underwent treatment.

Later, the mother filed a police complaint against the teacher. Based on the complaint, the tuition teacher has been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Police officials are now probing the case but no arrest has been made so far.

Previously, the teacher had allegedly stripped the girl and beat her with a cane for not finishing her homework, according to Naya Nagar police station sub-inspector Sohel Pathan who quoted the complaint filed by the child’s mother.

Well, this surely seems like an awfully harsh punishment for such a small mistake. We hope the child is better now and she recovers soon.
