15 YO Watchman’s Son Finds Diamonds Worth ₹40 Lakh And Returns It To Owner. Gets Rewarded.

“Honesty is the best policy.”

Probably one of the very the first lesson taught to us. But how often have we practiced it? In this big bad world, where people are thriving to survive cases of fraudulence and treachery, this 15-year-old just showed everyone that no matter what, honesty still remains to be the best policy!

Vishal Upadhyay, a watchman’s 15-year-old son residing in Surat, found a packet containing diamonds worth ₹40 lakh.

The class 11th student found the precious packet containing 7000-carat diamonds while playing cricket at the diamond street. When chasing a ball in the parking area on the roadside, Vishal came across this packet lying beneath a two-wheeler.

Vishal then took the packet home and decided to keep it safe, until he found the real owner. He did not even let his parents know about it. Thankfully, three days later, Vishal was able to finally find the real owner, and this is how he narrated his act of bravery to Times Of India.

“I returned home and kept the packet safely without informing my parents. I thought I would find the rightful owner and return the packet to him. On the third day, the packet owner came looking for the packet. I heard the conversation and immediately followed him. I told him that the packet was with me,”

So what was it that inspired the small boy to have a such a big and brave heart? Well, it was an incident from his past.

“I remember losing a Rs 50 note in the street given by my mother. That day I could not eat. I kept on thinking about the pain and agony through which the person who lost the diamond packet may be going through.”

And just like how all good things happen to good people, Vishal too was awarded a handsome amount of 30,000 by the owner of the diamonds, Mansukh Savaliya. The man simply could not stop thanking Vishal,

“I am so indebted to the young boy for returning my diamond packet. It would have been a big loss, had I not found the packet. I would have to sell my house to repay my creditors. The boy saved me and my family,”

Vishal also received a cash prize of Rs.11,000/- from the president of Surat Diamond Association for his noble act!

Furthermore, when Vishal was asked on what he intends to do with the amount he has awarded, he said,

“I will use the money for my studies. I want to make it big one day. I want to give a quality life to my mother and father.”

We applaud the high spirit displayed by the 15-year-old. Not only was he honest to return the diamonds but was also sensible enough to take care of it and keep it safe. With such small children teaching us big lessons, there is still a bit of hope left for all!
