“I’m Happy That He Isn’t The Captain,” Says Sehwag After Dhoni Gets Removed As Pune Captain

The entire cricketing world went into a state of deep shock when IPL franchise, Rising Pune Supergiants decided to relieve MS Dhoni from the captainship duties and appointed a young Steve Smith for the job. The decision invited a lot of criticism for the team management and owner Sanjiv Goenka.

Known for being outspoken on every burning issue, Dhoni’s former teammate and one of India’s finest batsmen, Virender Sehwag has expressed his opinion on the controversy.

Speaking at a sports-themed literary festival, Virender Sehwag, head of cricket operations of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, jokingly said that he is happy to know that MS Dhoni is not the skipper of Pune anymore.

“I am happy that he isn’t captain because maybe now my team, Kings XI Punjab, can beat this Pune team.”

While the Pune team finished 7th of the 8 teams in the 2016 season of the T20 league, Punjab was the only team behind them at the 8th spot.

Adding to his thoughts, Sehwag lauded Dhoni for his captaincy skills.

“On a serious note, I believe that this is an internal decision of the franchise but he is one of the best ever captains India has ever had.”

Sehwag’s thoughts resonate with the thinking of every Indian cricket fan. With the skipper’s baton passed to Steven Smith and Pune being a young team with a number of veteran players, their road to the final is not going to be easy.
