I love my job.

I joined India post at the age 21 as a village postman. After some initial difficulties, gradually I became comfortable with my job. Distribution of letters, parcels, money orders every day has become a part of my life. And I love doing this.

-I love the smiling faces of people when they get their desired articles they wait for.

-I love the feeling of satisfaction when I deliver a money order to an old man/woman living in a village whose son works far away and sends money.

-I love the curious eyes of a child when he looks at me with letters in my hand.

-Be it a rainy day or a hot summer, I never ever took a leave from my work since I joined.

I love being a messenger in this era of technology, mobile and social media.

We may find it hard to believe, but a majority of people in villages do not know how to use basic Internet. In places like these postmen still drive, cycle and walk to deliver letters.

Secondly, we might find it nigh impossible to live our lifestyles in an income as ‘meager’ at 16,000 rupees.

Thirdly, it is refreshing to see the young postman love his job so much that he hasn’t taken a single day of leave since he joined.

We need to find happiness in the little things in life, serve people better, and do our jobs sincererly, even if it is delivering letters in the age of WhatsApp.
