Whenever we want to believe that all is not lost, some incidents which surface are so disturbing that they churn our stomach.

Humanity was ashamed when a man was left to die on the streets of Delhi, after encountering a hit-and-run by a car. The worst part about the incident was that people stole from the severely injured man.

Narender Kumar, a 35-year-old driver from Bijnor, U.P. , was crossing the road near Kashmere Gate bus terminal, when he was hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle at around 5pm on Wednesday.

Kumar suffered serious injuries on his neck, legs and spinal cord. Recalling the accident after being transferred to Safdarjung hospital, Kumar said,

“I was flung on the footpath because of the hit by the car. Unable to move because of the injuries, I lay on the roadside through the night”.

While he was approached by several people, it took someone as long as 12 hours to finally call for help. The brother of the victim spoke to Hindustan Times and said,

“Instead, people stole his mobile phone and bag which were lying on the roadside. Someone even stole Rs 12 cash from his pocket”

Cases have been registered by the police against the speeding driver and the consecutive thefts.

At times like these, when people forget their humanity and take advantage of a helpless man for their petty gains, what hope do we have for the world?
