It doesn’t matter if you call it ‘Mumbai’ or ‘Bombay’, the city embraces you with open arms. In fact, if you have the eye, every street paints a picture, every place is eager to tell a tale and, I can say this from personal experience, there are hues everywhere.

I was always embarrassed of the fact that despite living in the city, I had never explored its many offerings. But once I did, my love for the city only grew! And now, I want to gush about all the offbeat things that’ll make you fall in love with this city that beats 24/7!

1. Revere in wonder at the Mahatma Gandhi mural at Churchgate Station

Wait, when did this happen, you ask? Well, give all props to Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra! This mural is part of the St+art Urban Art Festival 2017, which is a collaboration of the St+art India Art Foundation with Asian Paints, and strives to give Mumbai sights a vibrant makeover and bring the average Mumbaikar a little closer to art! And of course, Bapu gets a feature!

And it's done! The Mahatma Gandhi mural at the Churchgate Station by @kobrastreetart is complete. Check it out! The Churchgate station has always been a landmark for the city of Mumbai, and now it will be one for the rest of the world as well. Made by the legendary artist @kobrastreetart as a continuation of his global project 'Olhares da Paz' ('Faces of peace’), he hopes the mural will convey a message of peace and harmony and encourage people to imbibe the values the Mahatma stood for – a person the entire world, and now every passersby at Churchgate station can look up to. Churchgate being the first station of the Western Railway's suburban line is an extremely iconic one. Kobra has painted a beautiful picture of Mahatma Gandhi getting down from a train, an adaption of a photograph taken in the early 1940s’ by Kulwant Roy owned by Aditya Arya Archive and India Photo Archive (@indiaphotoarchive) and is symbolic of the impact that Gandhi ji and the railways have had on India's Independence. So the next time you are around this area, take a moment to appreciate Kobra's jaw dropping mural and Gandhiji's relentless efforts for our freedom. A massive thanks to Western Railway for giving us this opportunity, and @asianpaints for enabling us to realise this iconic artwork. Shout out to Brazilian consulate in Mumbai. South Bombay is like an architectural buff’s haven, with its old colonial era buildings still reminding us of the city’s rich heritage. From the Gateway of India to Flora Fountain, Chhatrapaji Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Big Ben’s doppleganger Rajabai Tower, each of these beautiful buildings are stalwarts exuding old-world charm!

In fact, I was so proud to find out that Mumbai has the second largest number of art deco buildings in the world! So cool, right?

4. Marvel at the pretty sights of the Sassoon Docks Art Project

Mumbai, the city of seven islands, is home to many docks but most of them are not open to the public. However, one of the oldest, Sassoon Docks, has recently been transformed into a beautiful art project for the St+art Urban Art Festival 2017, by St+art Indian Foundation and Asian Paints.

And it is a sight that I must insist you to behold as soon as you can!

Plastic Ocean by Tan Zi Xi (@messymsxi) Singaporean artist Tan zi xi's installation, ‘Plastic Ocean’ is an awareness call towards the ignored plight inside Mumbai’s coasts. For two and a half weeks, the artist and her team sewed together nearly 400 kgs of plastic, that was sourced with the help of Banyan Nation, to put this installation together. Through Plastic Ocean, Singaporean artist Tan zi xi gives us a glimpse into the life of a fish. Her installation seems like a never ending ocean of plastic, amplified by mirrors that cover the walls of the room. Come by the #Sassoondockartproject to experience this mesmerising installation yourself. Massive thanks to @visit_singapore for supporting this project Festival supported by @asianpaints 📸 @messymsxi (Swipe for more)
