And sometimes, these monuments become legendary, because of the touching stories of the lovers. And also, because the monuments are beautiful, not just because they are built that way, but also because the aura of love that surrounds them.

1. Alley of the Kiss, in Plaza de Los Ángeles. Where one alleyway kiss brings 15 years of romantic luck

People literally line up to kiss in the same alleyway as the local legendary lovers – Ana and Carlos. The lovers died tragic deaths, like Romeo and Juliet, and to pay a tribute to them, lovers flock to this place in Mexico, so that they might find true love too.

 

2. Cornell University Suspension Bridge, where you need to kiss on a suspension bridge or it collapses

Every person has to kiss their lover on this bridge. Legend has it that if the lovers refuse to kiss on the bridge, it collapses under their feet.

It has never collapsed, or to bluntly put it, no loving couple has ever passed up the opportunity to kiss here.

 

3. Juliet’s wall, Verona, where you write letters to her so that she may grant you eternal love

Juliet is a character in William Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet. But lovers still flock to this place where she lived in the tragedy Shakespeare wrote so well.

There are thousands of letters left by lovers asking Juliet to grant them everlasting love.

 

4. Mount Huangang, where you climb a peak and put a padlock on a bridge

Mount Huangshuan is 1000 meters high. Lovers hike up to the top and put padlocks on the guard chains present there to prevent people from falling. Lovers then throw the key into the cliff, sealing their love forever.

St. Valentine is buried in Whitefriar Street Church in Dublin and lovers go there to pray that their romantic love lasts forever.

 

6. Sweet Heart Abbey, Scotland, where a lover is buried with her lover’s heart

Devorgilla lived in Sweet Heart Abbey with her love, Lord Balliol. Balliol died a premature death, and Devorgilla was heartbroken and shattered.

She kept Lord Balliol’s heart preserved in a casket and when she died too, she was buried in front of the Abbey with Balliol’s heart resting on her bosom.

The place is considered to be a monument of holiness and of love.

 

7. The Taj Mahal

Shah Jahan built this monument for Mumtaz over 17 years. And then when both of them passed away, they were buried together in this mausoleum of love, to be together even after death.

Taj Mahal is a beautiful reminder that some monuments of love last even after death.

 

8. Magic Moon gates in Bermuda that give good fortune to newlyweds

Legend has it that walking under one of these gates brings good fortune.

Newlyweds walk under the gate and kiss under them too, so that their marriages will be long and happy.

 

9. Victor Noir’s Tomb, Paris, France, the place that grants fertility and husbands in a year

The legend goes that rubbing the genital area of the statue and kissing it on the lips will bring a husband into the lives of the women.

10. Pont des Arts Bridge, Paris, France, one of the most famous love monuments in the world

Hundreds of thousands of lovers have flocked to this bridge to immortalize their love by putting a lock on the railing, with their names on the lock.

The bridge brings so much good luck that the bridge was overburdened with these locks and the city administration had to finally remove them to save the bridge.

 

11. The Kissing Bench in Syracuse where you can finally get married after kissing on it.

If you want to marry your love and cannot, for some circumstances, this is the place to be. Legend states that a couple that kisses on the bench eventually ends up marrying each other.

 

12. The Bridge of Sighs, Italy, the place that made sunset gondola rides famous

This is the place that made the romantic gondola rides so famous. The superstition states that if you kiss your loved one on the gondola, under the bridge at sunset, you will be with your loved one forever.

No wonder people are attracted to these places. Everyone wants their love to live on forever. Why else would they go to these places in such huge numbers?
