“He Can’t Deal With The Pressure Of Success.” Raju Srivastav On Kapil And His Alcoholism

A lot has been written and spoken about the ugly spat between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover. While the unfortunate event, of a drunk Kapil, allegedly abusing and beating Sunil happened days ago, the buzz just refuses to die. In fact, new revelations keep appearing in the news, courtesy of the well-meaning sources.

Although we refrained from quoting all the invariably available statements earlier, Raju Srivastav, comic/actor, has joined the bandwagon of lending a thought and it gives the Kapil-Sunil feud a new perspective and longevity, to the say the least.

Raju Srivastav, who recently made an appearance at ‘The Kapil Sharma’ show for a special episode (in the absence of Sunil) had a lot to say about Kapil and his high-maintenance success.

“Kapil success ke pressure ko jhel nai pa raha. I don’t think he is arrogant, I just feel he can’t deal with the pressure that comes along.”

The comedian also pointed out instances where he had learnt about Kapil’s alcoholism and the problems that followed.

“Although he has never misbehaved with me, other artists and technicians on the show have told me how he gets angry after drinking. They all say that otherwise he (Kapil) is fine, but changes completely as a person post consuming alcohol. It is so sad. People love us and if we behave like this (after drinking), it hurts our fans. Janta ka pyaar sabse upar hai…daaru-vaaru he can leave, but not this (Audience’s love matters the most, rest everything can be managed).”

Raju also confessed to acting as the peacemaker between both for the greater good of all. He even went out to plan a meeting for both but unfortunately that never happened. He said,

“Kapil has told me that he is trying to meet Sunil, but he is out of Mumbai. He told me that Sunil is determined not to come back on the show. To make things better, I had arranged a meeting with them at my house on Sunday, and I had even thought of calling Kapil’s mom (to mediate). But Sunil told me that he had extended his travel plans and will get in touch with me when he is back.”

Amidst all these attempts at reconciliation, Sunil, however, feels differently.

“I am very relaxed, very introspective, deep in thought about my future plans…I am just watching all the tamasha that’s going on. It’s very entertaining.”

Well, who would blame him? Wonder when the brawl is going to end!
