IIT-Madras Bans Student Group For Criticizing Modi Government And Its Policies

India is a free country. We get to exercise our freedom in all ways, be it freedom of speech or freedom of living. But..

In a controversial move, IIT Madras has banned a discussion forum for students following an anonymous complaint that it tried to spread hatred against our PMO, Mr. Narendra Modi. They mobilized  SC/ST students to question government policies on the use of Hindi and the ban on cow slaughter.

The decision followed after the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) made an inquiry regarding the anonymous complaint it had received on the activities of the Ambedkar Periyar Student Circle (APSC) on the IIT campus. This contained one of APSC’s pamphlets which reproduced a speech criticising Modi’s government and its policies.

Sivakumar M Srinivasan, who is the dean for students, sent a mail to APSC stating they were ”derecognised”.Members of APSC are now up in arms pointing out that the HRD ministry’s action and the IIT’s decision to ban their activities was based on an anonymous complaint by right-wing groups and that they were denied a hearing!

Are we really living in a free country where we don’t have a freedom of having our own opinions?

Update: We  took this piece of news but apparently we came to know that this piece of news was twisted and that the Student group was not banned because of the reason stated in the article. Here’s a tweet and the pamphlet that confirms the same:
