A Drunk Lawyer KILLS A 21 YO Delhi Student After He Objected To Him Smoking In His Face

Humanity. The meaning of this word seems to be coming to an end. The world is turning scarier with every passing day and human morality is simply dying a slow death. With violence and crime replacing tranquility at an alarming rate, the world is heading towards a dark space. This case is yet another specimen of human cruelty.

In a horrific road rage incident in Delhi, two 21-year-old aspiring photographers Gurpreet Singh and Maninder Singh were hit by a drunk lawyer named Rohit Krishna Mahanta after they humbly requested him to ‘not smoke in public.’

Gurpreet who was in a coma since Sunday succumbed to his injuries yesterday and died.

According to the victims family, Gurpreet and his friend Maninder had gone to AIIMS in the wee hours of the morning for shooting a documentary. After finishing the shoot around 3:30 AM, the two decided to have parathas outside the hospital.

Sharing the dreadful account of what happened next, here is what Maninder told Hindustan Times,

“The man was smoking a cigarette and blowing the smoke into our faces. The smoke not only caused us a physical problem, it was also against our religious belief. So, we requested him to avoid smoking in public,”

But the simple request soon turned into a heated argument. Realising that the verbal tiff may soon get violent, Gurpreet and Maninder soon enough fled away on their motorcycle.

However, this did not calm a drunk Rohit and he followed the two with his car on full speed until he rammed their motorcycle. Here is what Maninder recalled of what happened after,

“Gurpreet and I were thrown off the bike. When I got up, I saw a man coming out of the Ford Fiesta. It was the same man who had threatened us minutes ago. He had chased us and hit us intentionally.”

The duo was rushed to the hospital. While Maninder is still undergoing a treatment, Gurpreet could not survive after being in a coma for two days.

While Gurpreet was in a coma, the perpetrator was set free and that caused his family to allege the police of inaction. However now, after Gurpreet’s death, the police has booked Rohit under the IPC section 304 which accounts for murder.

So much of anger and for what? For simply being asked not to smoke? Where is the world heading? We hope justice is served.
