Delhi HC Warns ‘Kake-Da-Hotel’ And Orders Inspection After The Infamous Video Went Viral

Last week we told you about a famous Delhi restaurant, ‘Kake-Da-Hotel’ which was serving feet-kneaded dough’s delicacies to its guests. A Twitter video of the incident went viral and everyone freaked out on the irresponsible behaviour of the esteemed restaurant.

While the eatery said that the person was not kneading the dough but washing clothes, the Delhi High Court has now taken the matter into their own hands by following up on the alarming issue.

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva of the High Court of Delhi asked Mehak Cuisines, the owner of ‘Kake-Da-Hotel’ to come clean on the matter while also addressing another issue which is otherwise ignored in India.

“You are one of the oldest restaurants in the city. Why can’t you maintain proper standards? In some countries, street vendors have better standards than our restaurants.”

Lawyers of the restaurant told the court that they have amended all the faults pointed by the Food Safety Officer in the audit and are taking further steps to make things better.

The court further asked the Food Safety Inspector to inspect the eatery again on Tuesday and file a status report along with photographs.

The saddest thing to come out of the whole matter is that a court has to intervene for restaurants to follow basic sanitation and food safety measures.

While developed countries like Canada, the United States and Australia have strict laws ensuring food safety right from primary producers to retailers and eateries, India(ns) lacks a strong will to enforce such regulations.

Reports of students getting adulterated food in schools and roadside vendors selling days old food items in unhygienic conditions is not news to Indians. The problem is, NO ONE CARES!

The government has made a law, ‘The food safety and standards act of 2006’ that lays guidelines for consumer safety, protection of consumer health and regulation of the food sector but how strictly it is enforced, is a matter of debate.

This matter is way more serious than it sounds or is perceived by us. Even if the authorities are not paying any heed to the matter by doing sudden inspections, taking samples regularly or punishing the culprits for their actions, we as responsible citizens of the nation need to step up.

Educate your younger ones and your elders on food safety, educate the local vendors near your homes, avoid eating at unhygienic places, make every effort possible to eradicate this problem. If everyone decides to do that, things will change.

And if you are still not convinced, think of your nation.

If the people of India are not healthy, how is it going to prosper?
