If you’ve ever been caught up in one part of the city, just because a VVIP was passing through another, then you would know the unpleasant feeling. And, especially in a city like Bengaluru, which is infamous for its traffic. But a news came in that is like a breath of fresh air.

A traffic cop, Sub-Inspector ML Nijalingappa, who was deployed at Bengaluru’s Trinity Circle, on June 18 allowed an ambulance to pass right before the First Citizen of India, President Pranab Mukherjee’s convoy, on priority basis.

Mr President was in the city to inaugurate Bengaluru Metro’s, Green Line. The sub-inspector from Ulsoor Traffic police station was on duty for facilitating smooth traffic movement for the President’s convoy. Just when Mr Mukherjee’s motorcade was headed towards Raj Bhavan, Nijalingappa saw an ambulance trying to reach a hospital near HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited).

He contacted his superiors and then let the ambulance pass by on priority basis. Thus, winning cheers and praises.

On Sunday, ML Nijalingappa was also awarded for his prompt thinking by the City police commissioner, Praveen Sood.

“As it was an emergency case, I allowed the ambulance to pass the junction immediately after passing the message to senior officials. As there was enough space and time to let the ambulance pass, I decided to allow it before the convoy passed the area.”

Social media was all praises for the officer’s actions and lauded him.

It was a few weeks ago, Bengaluru traffic police faced a lot of flak for not letting an ambulance pass because state’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah’s convoy had to pass. Now, this sure looks like a change for a better society.
