As an industry, Bollywood is fickle, to say the least. Yes, there is talent and in abundance, but in this age of digitisation, technicalities triumph over everything. Let me rephrase that; it is safe to assume that synthesisers have replaced singers over the time. And the little scope that was left, by cheesy remakes of classics in the wrap of rap!
However, amidst all, there still is a voice that soothes the soul of the listener. If you haven’t guessed it yet, it is Alka Yagnik and her melodious voice that brings me solace like nothing else. Having reigned over two decades in Bollywood, Alka has not paved the way for budding talent but honed the skills of many aspirants. Honestly, I can’t think of one song, sung by Alka, that doesn’t give me goosebumps.
While we are still at it, here’s a list of songs that does!
1. The evergreen
2. Kasam Se…
3. So many memories!
5. Party anthem!
6. No soul who hasn’t heard this!
7. Tumhi se…
8.That is no crime!
9. ‘Jaati hun main, jaldi hai kya?’
10. Missing my paradesi
11. Speaks volumes!
12.*screams, ‘oh bloody…oh blooda’*
13. ‘Koi mujhe itna batade, ghar ka mere mujhko pata de’
15. ‘Tum aaye toh aaya mujhe yaad…’
16. My personal dance anthem!
17. ‘Chand chipa..badal main‘
18. I wish I could
20. Because music knows no boundaries
21. This is <3
22. In matters of love,
23. ‘Jane Kyun…’
24. ‘Agar tum saath ho‘
How will we ever thank you for these, Alka? But let me start with, thank you so much for lending your melody to these words and infusing life in them.
