Remember how a drunk Veeru threatened to jump off a water tank after his marriage proposal for Basanti was rejected by her mausi? It’s been over four decades, but the scene from Sholay remains intact in all our minds. This isn’t just a scene that leaves us laughing hysterically every time we watch it and also awakens the drama queen in us!
A woman working for a private consultancy in Cyber City seems to have taken inspiration from this scene at a time when she was denied the ‘permanent employee’ status by the firm, owing to her unsatisfactory performance.
Unhappy with the company’s decision to sack her, the woman stood on the edge of a five-storey building and threatened to jump off it, were she not made a permanent employee of the company.
“On May 24, when she got to know that the company was not hiring her as a permanent employee, following the end of her probation period, she threatened to kill herself,” Inspector Vivek Kundu, Station House Officer (SHO), Gurugram Sector 18 police station told TOI.
As soon as the police were informed, they rushed to the spot and helped the office staff convince the woman to step down and return to safety. The video of the incident is going viral on social media.
The video shows a man in a pink shirt cautiously approaching the woman standing on the edge of the building. He is seen speaking to her before the woman finally steps down holding his hand.

Netizens were earlier questioning the authenticity of the video but Gurugram police have confirmed that the viral clip is that of the real incident transpired on May 24.
The video has amassed reactions from all over the country. While a few think that such behavior should not be tolerated, others have found it funny and melodramatic.
Thank god, she listened to the guy and on his part he handled it with calm. She was standing really on the edge and a small shift in body balance, it would have been terrible.

According to the company manager, the woman was not supposed to be hired after completing her probation period as her performance was unsatisfactory. On the other hand, the woman has blamed it all on the company and said that she was punished for standing up against the office management which ‘did not have the proper environment for women employees’.
Neither the woman nor the company has agreed to file an FIR said the police.
While we all appreciate melodrama on the silver screen, risking your life is certainly a no-no!
