“Who cares if one more light goes out? I do”, read the lyrics of Linkin Park’s popular number ‘One More Light’. Chester Bennington is sadly not amongst us anymore. But the poignant lyrics and music that he created being the lead vocalist of Linkin Park still form an irreplaceable part of our lives!
His songs are, no doubt, capable of bringing a positive change in our life. His words certainly motivate us to live life to the fullest. But the man, who committed suicide a couple of years back would have hardly imagined that his songs will one day motivate someone to give up on the idea of suicide!
Cristina Settanni, a healthcare worker based in Orlando, was driving home on a busy highway when she spotted a stranger sitting on the ledge of an overpass. She did not bother to stop by him earlier and drove past him but as she saw him in the rear-view mirror, the woman decided to take a U-turn and speak to him.
“I didn’t really think about stopping, but I thought as I saw him in my rear-view, I probably should stop, especially since no one else did,” she told Click Orlando. “I stopped because I’ve been where he is. So I know what it’s like. He needed somebody to show that somebody cared, and tell him he didn’t need to do that today,” she added.
She eventually recited the lyrics of Linkin Park’s song ‘One More Light’ to comfort the man. “I didn’t know if [the lyrics] clicked with him,” Settanni said, “but he just cried.”
Police immediately rushed to the spot and figured out that Settanni was sitting calmly beside the man on the ledge comforting him. The cops feared that the man might jump off the ledge and so brought him to safety soon. They discovered that ‘bad decisions and family problems’ lead the man to take such an extreme step!
The footage of the woman helping the stranger was shared by Orlando police on their official Twitter handle.
The man looked like he was ready to jump off an overpass. But a stranger stopped her car and sat with him until a deputy arrived. A lyric from the band @linkinpark may have saved the man's life. pic.twitter.com/2hcVsLXmCD
