We keep discussing that we need to have more equality in our society. But, despite being in the 21st century, there’s proof that we’re far from doing so just on the basis of how men and women move. A man is able to roam around the streets at midnight, drunk as hell and return home unscathed. However, when a woman does so, completely sober, she has every chance of being attacked by someone. Don’t believe me? Well, look at this Twitter thread.
Twitter user @ojoscafe shared a spine-chilling account of how she was followed by a hooded man on her way to her home.
A thread:
The following set of tweets detail what happened to me coming home Saturday night to University Heights in the BX. I am not doing this for attention/sympathy, but rather to warn the public, especially my fellow women, who may live in the area or know some1 who does.

The following footage is me walking up into my building. You’ll notice a man walk behind me moments later. I did not see or hear him. pic.twitter.com/oxCtNvcstN

If that’s not scary enough for you, wait till you see the man follow her all the way up to her lobby.
I get into my lobby, and a few steps in this strange feeling comes over me, like something was warning me to be cautious or that I wasn’t alone. Now, I’m a believer in the super natural so I honestly was ready to confront a ghost if needed.

So I immediately thought to myself “make sure the door locked”. I extend my arm and shut the door closed. He had his foot on the corner to stop it from closing behind me after I enterd. The following video is from inside my lobby, showing everything I just explained. pic.twitter.com/aGZkIOr7Pw

Now, the man knows that she’s aware of his existence. But that isn’t enough to scare him away.
…or he was watching for me to go upstairs so that he could run up behind me and/or force himself into my apartment.

After the failed attempt to get into my building, he leaves. I get to the second floor of my building and immediately call 911 to report what happened. My hands were shaking & I was stuttering so hard that the operator thought I was hurt. The police show up minutes later.
— A.A. (@ojoscafe) September 26, 2018
However, due to the woman’s steadfastness and the CCTV cameras everywhere, the man wasn’t able to do anything and ran away.
Since Saturday night I keep replaying the incident over and over, thinking of the many factors that could’ve caused a different outcome; me dropping my keys or stopping to look for them in my bag, being drunk and taking my time walking in, being distracted on my phone.

He was about 6’3, around 220 lbs, wearing a black jacket w/dark grey sleeves & hoodie & dark grey jeans. He wore a scarf up until just under his eyes so I couldn’t see his face. If you have any information, contact your authorities, or me. If not, RT this thread to save a life.

It’s highly unfair that women have to look over their shoulders because of men like these. That said, netizens were glad that she survived this situation unharmed.
1. The police in that area should be put on high alert.
I’m so glad you’re ok my anxiety was rising with each tweet and only calmed when you stated that he just left the scene. I hope they catch him!!! And ASAP!!

2. She’s not the only one who has been in situations like this.
Glad you got out of that safely. I was held captive by my Lyft driver last Monday. No matter what he wouldn’t let me out of his car until I held up my phone and said “Let me out now or I’ll call the damn police!” He finally let me out of his car at the driveway to my job.

3. That shouldn’t be the norm but it’s the reality we’re living in.
Oh my god I just watched this and got chills! Thank god that you’re safe!! Literally makes me want to watch my surroundings at all times. 😭

4. We are all glad that she’s safe.
something like this happened to me very recently and it's the scariest thing ive ever experienced .
glad you're ok & your intuition is strong 💕— mama . (@leebradshaw_) September 26, 2018
5. The CCTV footage looks like a horror movie.
God, his predatory movements, and how he rushed to the door made the hair on my neck stand up. Thank goodness you are OK. I hate how we have to worry about this, we shouldnt have to fear just being out alone.

The woman thanked her well-wishers and assured that she’s reading everyone’s responses to her thread.
I see all your replies and well wishes. Thank you all. I’m a little overwhelmed with the responses but I see all of them. Again, thank you.

It’s strange that men have such a hard time understanding the meaning of consent and think that just because our society is largely male-dominated, they’ve the right to do things like this. But they should keep in mind that women aren’t afraid anymore and will make them eat dirt in a moment’s notice. So, now it’s up to them to straighten up their act or face the wrath of justice.
