While the world is still the scary place we last discussed about, there have been reports of incidents that tell me that the definition of scary is changing, even as we talk. Yes, on a bad day it is ‘gory’ and ‘unimaginable’ but on a good day, it is ‘comical’ to say the least!

Hey, I’m not glorifying any kind of crime but you gotta laugh when you gotta laugh. Want to join? Read along!

According to Hindustan Times, Delhi Police has caught a 30-year-old man, identified as Rawender Singh, for duping people by promising them jobs (fake) for money.

Not very odd? Well, wait for it.

The twist in the tale is that Singh himself had fallen victim to a job racket and had lost Rs 8 lakh in 2014. Nupur Prasad, DCP, said,

“To come across as convincing, the racketeers organised fake competitive exams on OMR sheets and job training for the candidates.”

He also said that Rawender and his associates would promise jobs with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Indian Railways. But instead of just fleeing,  they would organise the entire process of getting a job.

In fact, in the last three years, the con men have already cheated over 50 people of Rs 4-8 lakh each. The report also states that the men would allegedly use WhatsApp groups to coordinate among themselves as they scouted for potential victims.

Reportedly, Singh had met a man named Abhishek Pandey who promised to get him a job with the FCI. Ultimately he lost his money but instead of going to the police, he took to duping others. Another investigating officer said,

“Rawender went through the fake job process for six months lost a total of Rs 8 lakh to Pandey.

By the end of six months, Rawender realised he was only being tricked and there was no FCI job waiting for him.”

Subsequently, he roped in his cousin, Ankit Singh. Apparently, when the police nabbed the gang, he kept pretending to be a CBI officer till the last moment. It was only when he was cross-questioned that he gave up.

Feels like watching a movie? Mutual feelings, my friend!
