5 Reasons To Prove That Vicky Kaushal Is Rightfully The Poster Boy Of Independent Cinema

There is no better way to put it. We as an audience have never appreciated good cinema, like we appreciate the stars and stardom. The films with big budgets, the biggest stars and the pompous sets; get all the love. And the good cinema never stands a chance.

There are some of us, who tend to love a film that doesn’t promise the glitz and the glamour; but an incredible STORY. A story that leaves you hanging, that makes you think and that hits you where it hurts.

The storytellers of the latter kind of cinema (that we call independent cinema), the actors, the artists, the ease of it all, is perfection. But still, it doesn’t shine at the box office.

But lately, because of many wonderful, selfless, committed directors; we have been blessed with good cinema. And a gift from them is the actor Vicky Kaushal; or as he is called, the poster boy of independent cinema.

With Vicky’s charm, charisma and unmatched skills in perspective, we see hope. We see light for films that have a ground of its own, we see audience heading towards it, we see the niche broadening. Vicky amongst many others is the silver lining of it all!

So, here are 5 reasons we think that Vicky is irrevocably one of those can save Bollywood and create a balance between realistic and fanciful cinema.

1. Vicky gets deep into the skin of his character. To be fair, he is as serene and simple as water, you pour him into a character and he will shine!

When a 100% Punjabi munda, can play a Bihari so convincingly in ‘Masaan’, then there is probably nothing he can’t do. Every role he plays, not even once you will feel like he is acting. It seems like that ain’t Vicky, it’s Deepak, or it’s Raghav.

2. It’s because of wonderful actors like him that the niche of independent cinema has broadened. People have started seeing such films in a different light.

With a career of only 4 years and a handful of films to his name, he is LOVED and adored by critics, directors and audience alike. He has carved out a place for himself that makes him worthy of all the love he gets.

3. Poster boy of independent cinema, Vicky is a role model to a lot of inspiring actors, who are scared to risk their career by starting with films that don’t promise big budgets; but a do promise experience and skill learning.

Many people don’t know that before acting, Vicky has interned as an assistant director to Anurag Kashyap while he was shooting ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’. Neeraj Ghaywan, who was an assistant director of the film called Vicky for audition when he wanted to make ‘Masaan’.

You learn the skill before entering the waters. And if you are good at your skill, there is no way you won’t shine. Vicky Kaushal is the example I cite here.

4. He is breaking typecast of a man we call a ‘hero’ in Bollywood. Playing the lead negative role in ‘Raman Raghav’, Vicky is definitely redefining how we perceive a hero in films, these days.

Vicky’s roles are so close to real life that they make us realise that a ‘hero’ is actually inside everyone of us.

5. Hailing from a humble family background, Vicky did not choose films just because he could. He graduated from an engineering college, worked on his skills in theatre, assisted directors and auditioned for his roles in films. That shows true passion and dedication.

If that isn’t a quality of a star, I don’t really know what is.

Vicky’s father, Shyam Kaushal is a renowned action director in Bollywood. He has worked in films like ‘Slumdog Millionare’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘3-Idiots’, etc… And Vicky never went to a lot of sets with him. He studied telecommunications form Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (Versova, Mumbai) and had a few job offers too.

But he realised that he wanted to act. He started doing, all that he did. And today the world knows him for the brilliant artist he is.

With all these arguments in place, I reckon, if there is anyone who has a vital role to play, in helping Bollywood’s independent cinema flourish, it’s Vicky Kaushal.

I rest my case.

P.S – It couldn’t be an argument but wait a minute, what a ridiculously perfect personality, Vicky has! ❤️
I mean, have you seen him dance and do Dubsmash? You are perfect, Vicky Kaushal! ?
