Ok, so the V-Day is here…err…almost. You’re probably wondering what you should be getting your significant other as a token of your love this Valentine’s Day?
Well, I can tell you right away what you should NOT be getting them – flowers and cards. Oh! Puhleez! For the sake of Saint Valentine (it’s his death anniversary, after all), don’t get them those two things. It used to be romantic and for some (no offence meant) still is. But there are so many other things you can gift your loved one that would be a better declaration of love than cards and flowers. Sample these nine!
1. A handmade or custom-made memory box.
Just a cute li’l box containing the memories you both have shared. Fill it with photos of you both, handwritten notes, first movie date tickets, and reminders of your special moments. It can be custom-made and you can fill it with all your love. But, it would be more special if you make it yourself. That added touch means a lot.
2. A jar full of reasons why you love him/her.
This is a sweet gesture that will floor your loved one. Write those reasons and see the smile on your S.O’s face getting broader with each reason they unfold.
3. Plan a “Super-date”, Ted Mosby style.
One big date rolled into one but without flowers and cards. It should be planned and filled with things you both love doing. Could be a getaway or a movie/ TV series marathon night you both enjoy.
4. An action-figure or TV Series/Movie merchandise your S.O is into.
This one achieves two things. One, it shows how much you know the other one and second, it shows how much you value each others’ likes and dislikes. Try it! It’ll work. *winks*
5. A ‘Game of Thrones’ book set or exclusive ‘FIFA 17’ Game.
If your S.O is a bookworm or a game-geek, this would make their day. Given they are into ‘GoT’. But if they are into something else, buy them that.
6. A beer barrel
Well! If your bae is a beer-junkie or has a favourite brand of wine or scotch, that could make a perfect gift. And, if they don’t drink, then snazz it up with some fruit champagne or make them a mocktail.
7. A Mix CD, pretty old school but utterly romantic.
I know what you’re thinking – on one hand, I am chanting NO-card-flower mantra but suggesting this. But that old school vibe of making a mix for your love is an amazing feeling. And know this – if you get the music right, they’re going to listen to it on loop and remember you through every second of it.
8. Accessories or clothes from their favourite fashion brand.
Yes, you can do that too. Given you know what they want, and from which brand. Go stalk their wishlist, or in subtle words ask them. If you give them an early V-present, they might even flaunt it with panache on the day of your date. Precious feeling!
9. Your Netflix password
That’s the sign of true love right there, let me tell you. People share other passwords, but Netflix is just off-limits for many. Share it with your boo this Valentine’s Day and show them you care.
10. A couple’s spa session
That’s refreshing, rejuvenating and really romantic. You outta try it. Take your bae to that spa date and it will be magical. *winks*
