Jackie Shroff Seeks Protection Of Personality, Against Use Of Word ‘Bhidu’ Without Consent

In India, personality rights refer to the legal rights that protect an individual’s (especially a celebrity’s) identity, image, reputation, and privacy. These rights are often associated with the right to publicity and privacy. The right to publicity grants individuals control over the commercial use of their name, likeness, voice, and other aspects of their identity for commercial purposes without their consent. On the other hand, the right to privacy includes the right to control one’s personal information, image, and identity.

Previously, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Rajnikanth moved to courts seeking the protection of their personalities.

And now, Jackie Shroff has moved to Delhi High Court on May 14 seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights. According to Moneycontrol, this is because several people and influencers are allegedly copying the actor’s personality and his iconic word ‘Bhidhu’ without his consent.

A case has been filed against several entities who have been using his name, photographs, voice and word ‘Bhidu’ for profitability without his consent.
