When we travel by plane, the cabin crew gives us a set of safety instructions before takeoff. And one of them is that, in case of an emergency, we’re to put our own seat belts/air masks before moving on to help fellow passengers. But every once in a while, real life gives us heroes who put themselves at risk to save others.
Randall McDougal, a 63 year-old truck driver, was taking ammonium nitrate (a chemical used in fertilizers) for his employer when his truck’s brakes caught fire. He called 911 for help and then proceeded to steer the burning vehicle to a remote highway.

Before the fire department could reach him, he tried to put out the fire. Unfortunately, before help could arrive at his location, the truck exploded and took his life. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
The massive explosion created a 15-foot crater on the road. The highway has now been closed for repairs.

Because of his timely action, nearby residents and paramedics were at a safe distance from the fatal explosion. He is being hailed as a hero for his brave act.
State police believe the truck driver was Randall McDougal, 63, of El Dorado. He worked for Blann Trucking Company of Hampton. His friend and coworker shared this photo with me. He told me McDougal was married with one son. He said he loved his job. pic.twitter.com/MWeaAFWEjB
