Two Indian Teens Won The ‘Travel Photographer Of The Year’ From 100s Of Global Entries!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

A picture conveys the distinct pulse of a moment which words may often fail to encapsulate. A picture not only captures all of the vivid colours across the visible spectrum but also invokes the emotion felt by the subject in the hearts of the unenlightened viewer.

Most recently, two Indian teenage photographers, Darpan Basak and Ankit Kumar were awarded the prestigious ‘Travel Photographer of the Year’ Awards in their respective categories. 

In order to be eligible for consideration, the participants had to submit two portfolios containing four pictures following the theme of ‘ ‘Mankind’, ‘Land, Sea, Sky’ or ‘Journeys & Adventures’.

 

Darpan Basak, 14, won in the ‘Young Travel Photographer of the Year’ category. Here’s what the judges had to say about his work.

“(His series) conveys the experience of landing the catch, getting into the action and giving a sense of the excitement.”

Darpan is a self-taught photographer who took up professional photography in 2012.

 

Ankit Kumar, 13, won in the ‘Young Travel Photographer — 14 years old and under — in the ‘Places and Experiences’ category. The judges were thoroughly impressed.

“(for someone who began taking photos less than a year ago) Ankit’s portfolio is remarkably accomplished”.

Ankit is relatively new to the photography world. His interest in photography was sparked when he received a camera on his 13th birthday.
