After a few months of imposing a travel ban on tourists, the Himachal Pradesh government recently opened its gates for tourists, easing restrictions. Last month, several tourists flocked to various destinations of Himachal, causing a massive traffic jam!
However, easing travel restrictions hasn’t been easy on nature, as popular destinations have now been littered. For example, a Twitter user shared pictures of Triund Trek in Dharamshala which was littered with numerous plastic waste products and liquor bottles. Have a look:
This sparked outrage online. While many condemned the callous treatment towards the mountains by tourists, others asked the state to fine tourists on spotting such acts.

Himalayas are just like our metro cities now, garbage at every nook & corner

This unfortunately is the story everywhere in HP, every year and more so during this pandemic with the recent heavy influx of tourists.
The @CMOFFICEHP govt need to incorporate heavy fines in existing law and a dedicated vigilant tourism police to stop this nonsense.

It’s so frustrating. Why are people so disrespectful?
In Curacao there are some of the best diving & most beautiful beaches in the world but for the unrelenting trash floating & sunken to the coral below. 😕— Merci Merci Me (@OneMarzian) July 1, 2021
With Covid, the urge to go for trekking has increased and the tendency to litter 🚮 too. Please carry a dustbin bag and bring back the waste disposals, is it very tough to do that? Some people consider Mountains ⛰ to be the dumping ground.
