There is nothing like a story of grit and determination. A story that no longer remains one and in reality inspires others to push boundaries. While we are still talking about the same, remember the story of Gujarat boy Varshil Shah, who scored 99.99 percentile in 12th boards? Yes, the same wonder boy who didn’t take long to renounce all of it, along with other worldly pleasures to become a Jain monk.

While we were still taking a moment to appreciate Varshil’s decision and the kind of maturity he has shown in this age, the pictures of him becoming a monk are here and we couldn’t help but share.

After topping the commerce stream in Gujarat State Board, Varshil Shah joined his guru, Munni Shri Kalyan Ratna Vijayji, took diksha in Surat and will now be known as Suvirya Ratna Vijayji Maharaj.

“Reaching till Diksha was the pinnacle of happiness for me, more than topping Class XII. Where the human being finds happiness, he goes there on his own, he needs nobody to tell him.”

His initiation ceremony began with Vashidaan on the banks of Tapi river where he disposed every piece of jewellery and cash, symbolising the shunning of the material world. It was followed by tonsuring of his head, reciting of prayers and seeking his parent’s blessings to renounce the world.

At the gathering, he added,

“Today I am in the prime of my youth, and now I seek blessings to help attain Moksha at the earliest.”

Ahead of his son’s spiritual journey, Jigar K Shah, an Income Tax Inspector said,

“Right from childhood, he was always inclined towards religion. We knew this would happen, but were not sure when. Even my daughter, Jayani, who is 23 and is studying, is planning to follow in her brother’s footsteps.”

Apparently, Varshil isn’t the only one in the family to become a monk. Last year, his brother-in-law’s son became a monk while he was pursuing CA.

Isn’t it one of those things that open your eyes? Introduces you to an epiphany? I certainly had one.
