Cricket Fans Slam Team India’s New ‘Retro’ Jersey, Say Too Many Ads Spoil It

The cricket world has been graced by many impressive jerseys, from Sri Lanka’s recycled jerseys made from plastic waste to an Indo-Pak couple wearing half-and-half jerseys while watching a match. But with the unveiling of Team India’s new jersey, fans are left quite upset.

The Indian-Australian ODI series has started today in Sydney. In it, the Indian players would be donning a new jersey based on a ‘retro’ theme. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan took to Twitter to give a new glimpse of it. Check it out:

However, what has irked many cricket fans is the presence of too many sponsored logos on the new jersey. The massive ad placements are making people compare the team jersey to a brand-centric billboard or an advertisement banner.

Annoyed tweeple slammed BCCI when they asked followers to retweet the post if they liked the new look of the jersey:

The Indian Express reports that this new dark navy blue jersey was meant to pay homage to the ones worn by Sachin Tendulkar and the team during their World Cup campaign over 28 years ago in the year 1992.

Former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More, who was also a member of the ’92 World Cup team, shared images from his preserved jersey.

But as fans pointed out, the jersey has a clean look owing to the absence of multiple sponsored logos and ‘India’ written in a bold, bright yellow font highlighted in the center.

The Indian Team will wear the retro kit for the 3 One-DayInternationals and 3 T20 Internationals only. They will switch to whites again for the Test series.
