Marriage is considered to be a process where two people shed their old lives and begin a new one. So, they need a ton of everyday items to get started. And that’s where gifts come in. People can give them anything from cooking utensils to clothing, grooming equipment, cleaning products etc. However, now times have changed and so have gifts.
According to the Economic Times, fuel prices are rising in India at an alarming rate and petrol is averaging at ₹80/litre all across the country.
Recently, New Delhi saw petrol prices hitting ₹82.06/litre, while in Mumbai it reached an all-time high of ₹89.44/litre. Additionally, price of petrol in Kolkata and Chennai reached ₹83.91/litre and ₹85.31/litre, respectively. And the reason for this meteoric spike is being slapped on the drop of rupee value against the US dollar and rise in crude oil prices.
But why am I talking about fuel prices? Well, it’s because of a wedding.
Indian Express reported that friends of a man in Tamil Nadu arrived at his wedding with a very timely and important gift: five litres of petrol.
A young man and his newly wedded wife were at their marriage hall in Cuddalore, greeting guests and smiling for the camera. That’s when his friends came in and handed him a jerrican full of petrol. Well, five litres to be exact.
The marriage hall erupted in laughter, but if you think about it, it’s probably the only gift that matters right now. The petrol price in Tamil Nadu has reached ₹85.15/litre. So, this free petrol will allow them to romance around the city for some time now without a fuss.

The friends who came up with this brilliant and effective idea said that the fuel symbolised a commodity worthy of being given as a gift. And every word of what they’ve said is true. If the Government doesn’t do anything to stem this increase in fuel prices, soon people will have to treat it as something as precious as gold or resort to cycling and walking.
