Travelling To Sydney? You’ll Soon Commute In Their Driverless Metro Trains ‘Made In India’!

Sydney, Australia has made massive progress as far as the transportation systems in the city is concerned. In what can be termed as a technological masterpiece, the state Metro has launched its first fully automated driverless rail service that will be served by 22 Alstom six-coach trains.

However, what’s even more interesting is the fact that these trains are ‘Made In India’. Yes, according to Business Today, the trains were assembled at its Sri City facility in Andhra Pradesh last December, under the Make in India initiative. The trains are fully automated and boast of various modern features including LED lighting, emergency intercoms, CCTV cameras, real-time travel information, and double-doors.

These trains which have been designed in France before being assembled in Andhra Pradesh, have got contributions from Alstom’s operations in Australia, Brazil, China, and Belgium.

Speaking to the Australian television network, SBS, about the same, Ling Fang, Senior Vice-President for Alstom in Asia-Pacific, said,

“Alstom is very proud to have partnered with the NRT consortium and Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to deliver our world-leading metro solutions for Sydney’s North West Metro. Sydney has now joined other great cities of the world (incl. Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Singapore) that benefit every day from Alstom’s metro solutions. The fully automated driverless metro is a first for Australia and will provide a step-change for the commuters of Sydney.”

This is definitely a milestone for the ‘Make in India’ initiative and a proud moment for the country as well.
