Arnab’s ‘Republic’ May Shutdown Before It Begins If Subramanian Swamy’s Claims Are True

Soon after Arnab Goswami handed in his resignation at Times Now, the famed journalist announced a new venture ‘Republic.’ All the Arnab fans rejoiced after the announcement. Tweets, messages and posts in support of his new venture came pouring in. A few dedicated fans even set up Facebook pages titled ‘I support Republic’, ‘Republic is best’ or something along those lines.

However, it seems like Arnab’s ‘Republic’ may never see the light of day.

Subramanian Swamy, a BJP MP and a well-known critic of Arnab Goswami, recently wrote to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting asking for the removal of the name ‘Republic’.

Mr Swamy cited the Emblems and Names (Prevention and Improper Use) Act 1950 stating that certain names such as ‘Republic’ could not be used for commercial purposes.

He even tweeted a picture of the original letter:

The Ministry hasn’t responded to Swamy’s letter yet. However, if the allegations made by him should hold true, Arnab’s ‘Republic’ may end before it ever begins.

For now, all we can do is wait.
