Back in December 2011, Farhan Akhtar had dropped a massive hint that ‘Don 3’ will be dropping soon in the last scene of ‘Don 2’ – where Shahrukh Khan was riding a bike.
Ever since then, people have been badgering Farhan Akhtar to make ‘Don 3’ With Shahrukh Khan and dropping comments in all of his social media posts that read, “Don 3 when?”
And finally, Farhan Akhtar officially announced ‘Don 3’. However, this time, SRK won’t be returning on screen as Don. Instead, Ranveer Singh will be playing the titular role in what can only be called a “new era”, reported ETimes.

However, innumerable fans weren’t happy with this announcement, not because Ranveer Singh isn’t capable of essaying the role of Don (of course he is) but because Farhan Akhtar had teased ‘Don 3’ way back in 2011 with SRK. And because they had been requesting him to an annoying degree on social media (so much so that it became a hilarious meme), to them it feels like a massive betrayal.
And fans have been expressing their disappointment directly on social media. Here’s what some of them have been saying:
There’s no need to call it Don 3 if you don’t have SRK in it. If it’s a new era, just effin call it a reboot. Fly on the coat tails of Don & Don 2 and not even have the courtesy to value fan emotions in the right way after years of us wanting an SRK Don 3 is just disrespectful.

However, Farhan Akhtar soon responded to these criticisms and called it a “new era” for the Don franchise. Both Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan were memorable in their respective eras and so, Farhan hopes that people will accept Ranveer Singh with all their love too.
“The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan,” read an official statement posted by Farhan Akhtar on social media.
