While everyone is congratulating Sakshi Malik for bringing home the bronze, we’ve forgotten a very recent movie based on a similar theme, only the end doesn’t play out that way. Sultan.
Since Sakshi Malik won a Bronze medal in the Olympics, Sorabh Pant called out Bollywood on the prevalent sexism and here’s what he had to say…
Here’s what he posted on Facebook, when Malik had just won the bronze medal.
Sakshi Malik trained for 12 years to win a Bronze.
To quote her, ‘Meri 12 saal ki tapasya rang layi.’
This is what a true sportsperson is like.
She would not quit her Olympic dream because of her husband’s stupidity.
Let him get pregnant.
Next time: TRY to get it right.
Sequel to #Sultan, inspired by #SakshiMalik.
India’s best wrestler tells her husband to wear a condom.
Wins a Bronze.
Husband applauds.— Sorabh Pant (@hankypanty) August 18, 2016
For those who missed the movie, Sultan impregnated Aarfa, and she couldn’t compete in the Olympics, something she had trained for, all her life.
This storyline makes ‘Sultan’ the true hero, who btw just trained for like a couple of songs/ movie years and won The Olympics. But did you know why he started training to be a wrestler? No not because it was is passion, nope not because he loved it, because he wanted to woe Aarfa, who was a active wrestler for as long as she could remember. So in the end, the whole movie became about this man, instead of the woman who actually deserved to get to the top.
We get where you’re coming from Sorabh and I hope the sequel to Sultan is about the RIGHT hero!
