Back in 2012 when Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor got married, it was the era of big fat weddings, unlike now. Even though Saif and Kareena also had an intimate ceremony, they did host a grand reception for their friends and family.
And when we think of their wedding, their iconic wedding portrait wherein the couple looks like royalty flashes in front of our eyes.

In the picture, Kareena was wearing a tissue rust-orange kurta, a matching dupatta embroidered heavily in gold, and a sharara with a contrasting, mint green border while Saif looked dapper in a white and gold sherwani with a turban.
The heirloom piece was restored and further embellished by designer Ritu Kumar.

The pic of the couple was shot by ace photographer Avinash Gowariker. Recently, Gowariker revealed how the iconic photograph was captured.
He also said that he did the shoot because the third generation in Saif Ali Khan’s family was wearing the same outfit at their wedding, reported The Indian Express.
“There are great wedding photographers doing great work. I don’t do that as such. I only do that when I have got a personal relationship and I come in there and do some portraits, fun shots. So Saif and Bebo, I did not do the full wedding, they wanted me to do that one portrait because that outfit is the same outfit what Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore had worn and Sharmila ji’s mother-in-law and Mansoor Ali Khan’s father had worn. So it’s the third generation wearing the same outfit and that pose also we recreated (sic).”

Thanks to Saif and Kareena, and of course to technology, we got to have a glimpse at the royal and historical outfits that were passed on to generations and are still preserved well.
