Meet Riti Kumari, Who Rejected 13 Job Offers For An Internship & Now Gets Paid ₹20 Lakh/Year

While looking for jobs, we try to go for the best option that’s available for us. High salary package, less commute, health insurance benefits, and flexible work environment – these are some of the things that we try to look for while searching for a job. And it goes without saying that if you had to choose between a full-time job, a part-time job and an internship, you would obviously choose the first option. However, a woman named Riti Kumari did the exact opposite.

21 years old and fresh out of college, Riti Kumari received job offers from as many as 13 companies including TCS, Infosys, and Wipro. One of these companies was offering her a salary of Rs 17 lakh per annum. However, according to Moneycontrol, Riti Kumari made a choice unlike anyone else – she took up an internship instead at Walmart.

She decided to follow her gut instinct instead of caving to what others expected out of her. The 6-month internship at Walmart came with a stipend of Rs 85,000, which was much less than what some of the companies were willing to offer her. But she chose that option anyway.

And guess what? She eventually landed a job at Walmart with a package of Rs 20 lakh per annum.

“I listened to my heart took the internship offer at Walmart, worked really hard, gave my pre-placement offer interviews, and ultimately got a job offer from Walmart,” Riti said.

In making this decision, she was inspired by her elder sister Preeti Kumari. She is currently pursuing her PhD from IIT Dhanbad. Even she had rejected multiple job offers to appear for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) instead.

While Riti’s parents were apprehensive about her decision to opt for an internship, they were later very happy that she landed a stellar job at the same company for a much higher package.

Kudos to Riti for listening to her heart. Not everyone has the courage to do so! 🙂
