The CCTV footage captured shows a man dining with a woman. He suddenly gets up from his seat in the middle of the meal and starts pacing back and forth near his table. He is seen holding his chest and visibly uneasy. He then holds his throat as he starts to choke, while the woman with him looks on helplessly.
The restaurant owner, Vasilis Patelakis then rushes to the man’s aid. He ended up saving a customer’s life by applying an emergency procedure called the Heimlich maneuver.
He executes it by applying sudden strong pressure to his abdomen, between the navel and the ribcage. He successfully dislodges food from his windpipe and the man then begins to breathe normally. The video was posted by the restaurant owner on Facebook which viral within no time.

Ever since the video went viral, people have been sharing their personal experiences of such medical emergencies on social media.
When an already loud table of guys got even more boisterous, annoyed, I looked back: they were all laughing at a friend who was choking, desperatly drinking water. I performed the Heimlich Maneuver and they suddenly quieted as they realized how serious his situation had been.

Saw an elderly woman eating alone, in apparent distress but making no sounds. I asked are you choking? She nodded. Took several attempts bc lettuce was blocking her airway like a one-way valve. Said she was too embarrassed to ask for help. Please, if you need help, ask.

I’ve used the Heimlich twice – once on my mom and once on myself.
One thing that you should mention – people often get embarrassed and try and leave the room. My mom did and I had to chase her into the kitchen. I’m sure she would have died in there had I not followed.— Me Myself Indominable (@bliss3333) July 20, 2019
