In today’s dose of ‘WTH News’, we bring to you a verdict from Madhya Pradesh High Court which is sure to blow your mind. The Indore bench of the High Court was hearing a case of a man, identified as Ram Singh (40), convicted for raping a four-year-old girl in Indore in 2007, reported Hindustan Times.
Ram was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment by an additional sessions judge (Indore) in April 2009. However, he wasn’t satisfied with the verdict and decided to challenge the order saying that he was falsely implicated.
Now, while hearing his plea on September 28, a bench of Justices Subodh Abhyankar and Satyendra Kumar Singh observed that looking at his ‘demonic’ act, they don’t think the case is fit to reduce his sentence. However, they also observed that since the culprit was ‘kind enough’ to leave the victim alive after the heinous act, they reduced his tenure, reported News18.
This is exactly what the court quoted:
“The court does not find any error in appreciation of evidence by the trial court and considering the demonic act of the appellant who appears to have no respect for the dignity of a woman and has the propensity to commit sexual offence even with a girl child aged 4 years, this Court does not find it to be a fit case where the sentence can be reduced to the sentence already undergone by him, however, considering the fact that he was kind enough to leave the prosecutrix (girl) alive, this court is of the opinion that the life imprisonment can be reduced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment.”

And as expected, this historic verdict received a lot of criticism online.
Collegium judges Justice Subodh Abhayankar and Justice S.K. Singh of Madhya Pradesh High Court reduced rape convict's sentence considering that 'He had left minor victim alive'. The victim was only 4 years old. These judges should be impeached and removed. #casteist_collegium pic.twitter.com/xXXu4OAFCi

Madhya Pradesh High Court reduced life sentence of rape convict Ram Singh to 20 years jail.
High Court said that he was "kind enough" to leave minor girl alive
After outrage over statement, now, High Court replaced "kind enough" with "he did not cause any other physical injury"

The Madhya Pradesh High Court awarded punishment not based on the crime committed but, literally, based on the fact that the crime committed could have been much worse.https://t.co/p16iNncC9V

There seems to be a large deficit in milords moral bank. It's scary to think how these morally bankrupt people are judging others and will be doing so until their retirement. Hearing such kind of news reminds me of this dialogue from LLB 2 film

Our milords are meme lords…they have to be really insensitive to not know that rape causes both physical and mental injury…maybe some real experience will make them see matters straight https://t.co/BBGv8Ou2Nx

My top 3 benchmark statements by Milaards
1. Every sinner has future
2. Kind enough to spare her life
3. If no skin is involved during physical touch, it is not considered as sexual abuse. https://t.co/zwrX8uFJ2g— Proud Hindu 🕉️🇮🇳 (@Indian_Hindu86) November 1, 2022

After so much social media outrage, the judges decided to review their verdict and eventually passed a modified order, changing the word ‘kind’ and calling it an “inadvertent mistake”, reported News18.
