It takes a truly iconic anti-hero to turn a hero-worshiping audience into die-hard fans. Ranveer Singh’s Alauddin Khilji from the (hopefully) soon to be released Padmavati has already begun catching people’s fancy. But it’s safe to say that he still has a lot to prove.
However, looks like Ranveer has already counted his chickens before the eggs were hatched!
This morning, Ranveer, who has a knack for posting some really whacky pictures on his social media profiles, shared the following image.
— Ranveer Singh (@RanveerOfficial) November 18, 2017
For those living under a rock, let me tell you, while the picture on the extreme right is Ranveer’s Khilji, the others are two of the most iconic villains of Hollywood.
The one in the middle is, of course, Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight trilogy…
… and the one on the extreme left is Malcolm McDowell’s Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange.
So what’s all the fuss about? Isn’t it a really cool edit? It just looks like Ranveer is…. Oh wait.
Yes, Ranveer clearly seems to be comparing his yet to be seen Khilji with two of the best, most loved villains of all time. And yes, his fans are clearly not happy about it, no sir!

Where is Karni Sena now? This is outrageous. https://t.co/m853cxafGj

With all due respect, you are one of the finest actor in todays time. But….comparing your role with joker is just too much. I am not denying you may reach to that level. But it takes a lot of polishing before you get that shine like Heath Ledger. #NotNow pic.twitter.com/kqmDawevTK

8. Some loyal Ranveer fans volunteered justifications of what might be the reason for this behaviour.
I guess he compared the character that he is playing in the movie with joker… and to be honest you need guts to do this even after the country talking so much about the @FilmPadmavati
I am sure he had his reasons…
Didn't ya @RanveerOfficial ?

9. Method in the madness.
I guess he is not comparing himself with heath ledger but the madness in the minds of these old age culprits is almost same..
And moreover brown skin is progressing better than white skins in some or the other way via bhansali movies and not salman khan, karan johar movies

Let me ask you, does the Vivek Oberoi comment give you a sense of déjà vu? Here’s why!
Remember Vivek’s super villain ‘Kaal’ in Krrish 3? The actor was quite proud of his performance and had gone to the lengths of comparing it with Heath Ledger’s Joker too.
Naturally, this did not go down well with Joker fans then and looks like they’re not too happy with Ranveer’s blatant comparison now too.
Here’s what I think, the die-hard Ranveer fan living in anticipation of Padmavati, that I am. The moment the trailer came out, lots of people compared his performance to that of Jason Momoa’s Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones and Aquaman from Justice League.
Maybe, this was a similar attempt by Ranveer to show his fans what may have inspired his villainous act in the movie. Or maybe it was a comparison.
But despite being some excellent editing, it just looks like two legendary cinema villains and an actor trying to be one.
