“Want To See A Naked Body, See Yourself In The Mirror,” Radhika Apte Lashes Out At A Reporter

Radhika Apte has repeatedly been making the news owing to her new release, ‘Parched’. The film has received critical acclaim and has also been inducted into the ‘Oscar Library’. However, in India, the film has been making the news for all the wrong reasons. Most Indian media has been more curious about the ‘leaked sex scene’ from the film rather than the film itself.

Radhika Apte recently lashed out at a reporter who seemed more curious about her sex scene than the film itself.

“Sorry, your question is very ridiculous. Controversies are made by the people like you. You saw the clip, you shared with other people, so you made the controversy.”

Radhika told the media that the film was much more than one ‘leaked scene’ and urged them to appreciate the film in its entirety.

She put things into perspective for the media by asking them to look at what artists were doing in the international film industry.

“If you get out of your cocoon and look at the world cinema and what people are doing abroad, what people are successfully doing, who are not ashamed of their bodies, you’ll probably not ask me this question.”

On the international stage, nudity and sex scenes also possess artistic value and unlike our domestic film industry, are not treated as ‘controversies’.

She asked the reporter to take a look at themselves in the mirror if they want to see a naked body.

“I am not ashamed of anything. People who are embarrassed about their own body are curious about other’s body. So if you want to see a naked body tomorrow, see yourself in the mirror rather than my clip. Then only we can talk about this.”

She was furious that the media had created such a grave controversy about the scene just because there was some nudity.

Nudity has been widely accepted in international cinema for decades, with a lot of ‘sex scenes’ being appreciated for being able to beautifully depict the intensity of a relationship. Such a change of perspective may not occur in the domestic film industry so soon. However, the need for change is evident.
