Video: Ravana Effigy Explodes During Dussehra Celebration In Punjab, Causes A Stampede

Every year, the 9-day Navratri festival comes to an end with Dussehra, where giant effigies of Ravana are set ablaze in a celebratory ceremony. This marks the victory of good over evil. While many parts of the country skipped the program due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, one such ceremony conducted took an awry turn when the Ravana’s combustion resulted in a fiery accident.

As per a report in The Indian Express, a Dussehra ceremony of burning the Ravana effigy in Batala, Punjab resulted in a mishap. A Facebook user shared a video of the 20 feet high effigy, standing on the ground near DAV School, accidentally exploding into flames. The panicked onlookers consequently ran in fear, resulting in a stampede-like situation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Watch the video here:

At the beginning of the video clip, some people are seen gathering around the effigy, seemingly with the intention to set it ablaze. But suddenly, a loud blast is heard as the firecrackers stuffed inside the effigy start exploding rapidly in quick succession.
