Being nominated for the Academy Awards and taking home the 24-karat-gold-plated statuette is a great honour for any artist in the film industry. But did you know about the unofficial tradition where these talented men and women also receive goodie bags ahead of the event? Yes, you read that right. And the Oscars 2020, scheduled to take place on February 9, is no different.
According to The Independent, marketing company Distinctive Assets will distribute “Everyone Wins” Oscars gift bags to all 24 nominees in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Director categories.
Hindustan Times reports that the nominees include Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson, Renée Zellweger, Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt among others.
According to Forbes, this year’s gifts are worth $215,000 (Rs.1.5 crores) and will most likely be delivered in multiple suitcases a week before the event. Some of the items include a 12-day cruise on the Scenic Eclipse luxury yacht and a romantic getaway at the Faro Cumplida lighthouse in Spain.
Some of the unconventional items included this time around are up to $25,000 (Rs.18 lakh) worth of cosmetic treatments and rejuvenation procedures, a smart bra that measures a woman for the perfect fit, a 24-karat gold-finished vape pen, cannabis-infused chocolate tasting experience, a year of membership with British matchmaking agency Drawing Down the Moon, “hydrogen-infused” water and a brainwave-sensing meditation headband.
Fox News quoted Lash Fary, founder of Distinctive Assets saying,
“Every human being, regardless of wealth or fame, appreciates the simple joy of a gift. While our ‘Everyone Wins’ Gift Bag is certainly not given based on need, it is assembled with a profound sense of gratitude for the incredible performances these talented individuals shared with all of us this year.
