The most coveted honour in the film industry i.e. the 92nd Academy Awards, will take place on February 9 and the nominations are out. In a live stream yesterday, Issa Rae and John Cho revealed the nominees for the 2020 Oscars and Joker stole the show with 11 of them.
According to HuffPost, The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 1917 received 10 nominations each. However, just like the Golden Globes, the Academy was criticized for overlooking female directors and actors of colour.

Presenter Issa Rae’s reaction after announcing the names of the 5 men nominated in the Best Director category (Martin Scorsese, Todd Phillips, Sam Mendes, Quentin Tarantino, and Bong Joon-Ho) inspired memes online. According to TIME, her salty “Congratulations to those men,” had people talking about deserving women like Lulu Wang, Marielle Heller, Lorene Scafaria and Greta Gerwig.

They really should change the rules and make it so that women are eligible in the Best Director category. Crazy that the rule is still "men only." It's 2020! Do the right thing, Academy — change the rule!

I'm surprised any women got nominated for Best Actress.

At this point I’m shocked that the Best Actress categories aren’t just full of men too #Oscars2020

Please, tell me more about how women don’t deserve awards for directing when those exact films get nominated in multiple categories including BEST PICTURE? #OscarNoms pic.twitter.com/homVpoNyLb

#OscarsSoWhite also began trending as movie buffs called out the Academy for not recognizing the work of Black, Latinx and Asian actors like Awkwafina, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Lopez and Lupita Nyong’o.

The other films that received a lot of Oscar love are Ford v Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story and Parasite. Did your favourite one make the cut?
