Famous for playing the role of Babita in Taara Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, actress Munmun Dutta most recently made waves for a YouTube video that went viral for all the wrong reasons. Speaking of makeup and her own beauty regime, she used a casteist slur while mentioning that she didn’t want to look a certain way, reports News18.
Dutta has since deleted the offensive section of her video but the original has been tweeted by a number of people. Her remark enraged some people online who widely criticized her. However, there were also those who admitted there weren’t aware that the slur was offensive. Take a look:
We are demanding @MumbaiPolice please take a strict action against her in SC/ST act. She is using inappropriate word for a particular society & hurt our sentiment. #ArrestMunmunDutta pic.twitter.com/kJPTy18Ccl

Even I didn't knew Bhangi meaning, me and my school friends used this word so many times during our verbal fights or sometimes in casual trolling.
We used to thought it's like similar or anoyonmous word of "stupid" or dumb. Like me, @moonstar4u used this word in that context.— Shivaji Chapekar (@feel_shiva9) May 10, 2021
She later took to Twitter and shared an apology stating that the blunder occurred due to her language barrier and that she was misinterpreted-
