Sonam Kapoor is in the news again. But, this time for a snarky face-off with the Mumbai Police! It all began with Sonam tweeting a clip of Dulquer Salmaan seemingly using his phone while at the wheel. While the reality was not quite as it seemed, Mumbai Police was quick to criticize the duo for their clip with following tweet-
We agree with you @sonamakapoor ! Quite a ‘weirdo’ to try such stunts while driving and putting the lives of fellow drivers at risk too! We don’t quite approve of these even in ‘reel’ life. #NotDone pic.twitter.com/WWoDz16hKj

Miffed at the misunderstanding and keen to clear the air, Sonam tweeted back to explain-
We weren’t driving we were rigged on a truck.. but I’m glad you guys are concerned.. I hope and I know you show the same interest in regular folk as well! Thanks for taking care! #Reelvsreal @dulQuer https://t.co/JD1NvcqGrU

In reality, the two were shooting a scene from their next flick, ‘The Zoya Factor’. It shows Salmaan in the driver’s seat of a moving automobile with his cell phone in hand when Sonam called him a ‘weirdo’ in the clip. However, the fact that his hands aren’t on the steering wheel, didn’t exactly sit well with the Mumbai Police.
That being said, Sonam’s response earned her flak from Twitterati for calling denizens ‘regular people’. Here’s how people reacted to her tweet, which indicated she set herself a class apart-

The situation soon seemed to spiral out of control-
Oh! Is she a royalty? And she talks big about ‘Gender equality’, ‘Pay gap’ etc..’Regular Folks’ the sheer condescension n contempt is so distasteful . @MumbaiPolice teach her something about ‘Equality’..😡

Mumbai Police complied by echoing the public sentiment. They tweeted back that every citizen was indeed special to them.
For us, No Mumbaikar is ‘regular’ they are all ‘special’! And we are equally concerned about them all. Glad to know your safety wasn’t ‘rigged’. @sonamakapoor https://t.co/PyYbB23OZs

Dulquer Salmaan also voiced his opinion, stating, “Would appreciate it if you had checked some facts before tweeting this. In fact, @MumbaiPolice helped us with permissions and traffic management during the shoot and were present the whole time. In my next tweet attaching the video I was shooting.”

Subsequently, he uploaded a clip that showed the steering wheel kept moving on its own.

Soon quite a few people sided with Dulquer Salman and wanted the Mumbai Police to apologize. Here’s a sneak peek at what they had to say!
Our Dulquer is a sensible actor and would never break any rules for publicity stunts.. Please don't speculate unnecessary things without proper investigations.. Standing with you on this Dulquer.. 👍👍

Dear @MumbaiPolice don't judge situations without knowing about it
— Morpheus (@morpheus_AJ) December 14, 2018
Pretty amateur stuff by @MumbaiPolice! In an attempt to be 'cool,' you should at least check the facts before you indulge in name-calling. The car was rigged to a pick-up truck and @dulQuer had already clarified it. Unnecessary. https://t.co/jTI1HDMz7w
— Abhishek Nair (@AbhishekNaair) December 14, 2018
However, Mumbai Police explained that they had their reasons for the tweet in this post-
.@dulQuer look at what one of the Twitter users made out of this. It is our duty to look into each & every complain. We are duty bound to raise an alarm, irrespective of who is on the other side. A disclaimer with the original video would have been a better choice pic.twitter.com/Wbcf9QyKH8
— Mumbai Police (@MumbaiPolice) December 14, 2018
In their defense, they did eat their words quite graciously soon. Here’s their apologetic tweet to Dulquer.
We appreciate that you weren’t indulging in any irresponsible violation. A good example for all your fans @dulQuer https://t.co/7nmjHYZGeu

This false alert created a storm of tweets flying back and forth between Mumbai Police, Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan. Fans and concerned citizens took to Twitter to support the party they favoured in this dust-up of gigantic proportions. Nevertheless, the verdict remains that you simply must verify facts before unjustly policing anyone publicly.
