21-Year-Old Mohit Ahlawat Scored 300 Off 72 Balls In A T20 Match. Move Aside Chris Gayle!

It was in June 1975 when Sunil Gavaskar scored 36* runs after batting for 60 overs in an ODI match at Lord’s against England. Between that and 2017, cricket has changed a lot. From teams struggling to chase 200 runs to both teams scoring over 400, modern-day cricket is fast and does not care about bowlers AT ALL.

But even then, it was hard to imagine someone going past the 300-run-mark in the ODIs, let alone T20s. But the unthinkable has happened!

Mohit Ahlawat, a 21-year-old Wicket-keeper batsman from Panipat, scored 300* in just 72 balls in a local T20 tournament in Delhi on Tuesday. While rest of the team totalled just 116 as the scorecard read 416 runs at the end of 20 overs.

The batsman was playing for Maavi XI against Friend’s XI in the ‘Friends Premier League’ at Delhi’s Lalita Park.

During his mammoth innings, Mohit scored 290 runs just by hitting boundaries with 39 sixes and 14 fours.

Mohit scored 50 runs in the last two overs, smashing 34 in the 20th over itself. Speaking of the knock, he said that he always believed that he could do it.

“I was feeling good out there in the middle. I was middling the ball. I knew I could get to the 300-run mark if I batted for 20 overs. After the 17th over I felt I had a realistic chance of getting to the figure. I thought if I could get at least 12 balls from final 18, I could get there. Fortunately, things went my way.”

Mohit was included in Delhi’s Ranji side in the year 2015 and made his debut against Rajasthan. However, after scoring just 5 runs in three matches, he was dropped from the team.

He played his last first-class game against Haryana in October 2015 and was since trying to make a comeback.

A wicket-keeper batsman, Mohit sees MS Dhoni as his idol and want to get back into the Delhi team. His long-term goal, however, is to break into the national side and sport the blue jersey.

“I am more focussed on doing my bit, giving my 100 per cent every time I play. Everything else will follow once I start doing that.”

It would be really hard for the Delhi selectors to ignore Mohit’s knock. It may have come in a local tournament, but it is never easy to score such a huge knock against any opposition or at any field. Now that IPL is just around the corner, we may get to see more of him in the coming days.
